Happy New Year!
Leadership would like to wish a happy and healthy New Year to our wonderful parent community. You are an essential part of our school and we are humbled by your infinite support and generosity. Here’s to another year of growth and achievement in 2016!
The deadline to apply to Leadership for the 2016-2017 school year is January 15. Parents can apply online at http://www.leadershiphigh.org/how-to-enroll/apply-online/
Senior Portfolio Day
Seniors have been preparing for their last portfolio defense since freshman year. They have compiled years of work from different grades and classes to demonstrate their growth in our four School Wide Outcomes: Personal Responsibility, Social Responsibility, Critical Thinking, and Communication. Seniors will defend one SWO of their choice and one chosen by the audience. They will be graded on their presentation skills and the thoroughness of their defense. Completing and passing the Senior Portfolio is a huge milestone at LHS. Good luck Seniors!
Week Without Walls
Week Without Walls, a Leadership tradition, is right around the corner! For new families, WWW is a week-long elective course in which a student has the opportunity to learn more about a topic of their choice. Previous WWW sessions have included Swimming & Surfing, Girls’ Camping, Hiking, Soccer Camp, College Tours, and many more! WWW is mandatory for all students. At the WWW fair on January 11, students can learn about all of the courses that will be offered this year. They then submit their top three choices, from which we use to create the classes. We do our best to accommodate everyone’s requests. Depending on their assignment your student may be able to earn Physical Education or Leadership credits. Parents will receive any necessary information regarding field trips and permission slips ahead of time. WWW is March 21- 25, the week before Spring Break.
Snap For The City – New SESSION!
This semester, Mr. Seaty is bringing his passion for photography to SESSIONS. He successfully completed a Go Fund Me campaign, raising enough money to purchase 7 DSLR camera and additional equipment. Read the statement below for the full course description:
Snap for the City’s (SFC) curriculum will focus on engaging with and photographing community based organizations, parks, and local businesses in order to create a visual essay of San Francisco. Students will ultimately use photography to answer the question, “What is community to you?” Equipped with DSLR cameras and an array of lenses, students will learn how to use the various functions of cameras to craft their final product. In addition to photographing, students will explore the purpose and effect of lighting, and how to create custom filters by adjusting lighting through digital editing software.
Much like one paragraph does not support a thesis, one photo in isolation does not tell a story. Thus, the course’s final will culminate with a Spring 2016 gallery in which you will select 10-15 prints to have developed and a full feature photobook displayed for family, friends, and community members to view.
We are always grateful to accept donations such as tissues, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, feminine products, and first aid items. Donations can be dropped off at the main office.
