Model UN

We  are excited to introduce a new academic club to our school—Model United Nations.  MUN is a highly respected, nationwide program that teaches Middle, High School, and College Students important skills such as research, writing professional academic papers, public speaking, parliamentary procedure, and community-building.  This program allows our students to travel around the Bay Area attending conferences with other schools, in which students role-play as diplomats from countries around the world, and try to work together to find solutions to global issues.  In addition to being great preparation for college, Model UN is a fun and exciting experience!  Students recently attend ended their first conference at San Francisco State University, and hope to attend another in November at U.C. Berkeley.  Meetings and practice for this club take place weekly during Sessions.  See Mr. Hahn (mhahn@leadershiphigh.org) in room 314 for more information.

Underwater Hockey

Mr. Salinas has brought a great addition to our SESSIONS with Underwater Hockey! Leadership is the first school in San Francisco to have an underwater hockey club. They have spent all of Quarter 1 doing strength training and will begin matches against other clubs by the end of the semester. We would like to thank you to Parks and Recreation who have made this possible by letting our club practice at Balboa Pool! The club is currently looking for scuba masks and swimming foot fins. Please contact Mr. Salinas at asalinas@leadershiphigh.org if you are able to donate.

City Surf Project

Former Leadership teacher, Mr. Irwin, created a SESSION for our students called Swimming and Surfing through his new non-profit, City Surf Project. The City Surf Project aims to “teach underserved, youth from low-income communities of San Francisco valuable life skills through the sport of Surfing. Students will ride waves, connect to the ocean and nature where which they can use as a stress reliever or meditative outlet, build self-confidence and the tools necessary to overcome difficult obstacles.” For more information check out CitySurfProject.com.
