Family Involvement

Family involvement and support in school activities directly affects the academic success of high school students. At Leadership, our family participation program requires 20 service hours per family per year. The service commitment can be fulfilled in a variety of ways including attendance at Back to School Night and Family Meetings, attendance at monthly Parent Association meetings, assisting teachers or staff, and /or sharing expertise.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to express their suggestions and concerns, to visit the school, and to meet with staff.

LHS is piloting a Family Meeting Project for the 2007 –2008 school year to increase the amount of communication between staff members and families and to reinvent the parent-teacher conference into a meeting that is more collaborative and less intimidating. Additionally, we have three “leadership” days during the school year that all involve extensive family support and participation. These days include the Senior Portfolio Defense, Senior Exhibitions, and the student-led "Teach-In."
