Independent Reading Launched
In advisory, we have changed the practice of Sustained Silent Reading (commonly known as SSR) to Independent Reading. With this change, we have brought in a plethora of new and captivating books for our students to choose from. These books have been specifically selected by our librarian Ms. Godwin. She has also created a curriculum to be implemented during advisory to create interest in the books. Students begin advisory with 20 minutes of independent reading where they are able to check out books from their advisor’s classroom library and implement the reading skills they will learn.
Drumming and Percussion
Leadership will be hosting a Drumming and Percussion class taught by Youth Art Exchange starting on Monday, September 22nd. In this class students will learn the basic drumming and percussion skills and learn about the history of beats and rhythms from around the world.
Every year the Excelsior Action Group presents a free, family-friendly art and music festival. The festival is inspired by an interest in building civic pride and showcasing all that the Excelsior community has to offer. Leadership will have a booth at the event to showcase our school to the Excelsior community. Make sure to stop by and say hello!
